Drink Your Healing

If you've been following any nutrition blogs or news lately, you've no doubt heard about the healing powers of bone broth. Some athletes turn to broth instead of sports drinks. Health enthusiasts pour up a hot steaming cup of broth instead of morning coffee. Why? Bone broth supports digestion, skin, and healthy joints, and it inhibits neutrophil migration, which means that it reduces the symptoms of colds and infections.

Recently, Studio512 in Austin featured Dr. Jamie Wu's coveted bone broth recipe. Who is Dr. Wu? None other than Bryan's long-time mentor, a true genius who has passed this ancient wisdom along to the best acupuncturist in Dallas, allowing more people to experience healing and health naturally.

Dr. Wu’s Bone Broth Recipe

Ingredients:

  • About 3 lbs of clean bones (if beef boil for 15 minutes or bake at 350 for 30 minutes for best flavor)

  • Three 1-inch pieces of ginger

  • Four 1-inch pieces of scallion

  • Salt

Directions:

  • Use a crock pot.

  • Cook on low overnight.

  • Strain.

  • Store in the refrigerator over for a few days or frozen for longer.

A few years ago, our family got the advice to add a touch of good quality apple cider vinegar (like Bragg's) to our bone broth to leach more of the minerals from the bones. Sure enough, our final product had more of that tell-tale gelatin upon refrigeration. Experiment for yourself. Do you drink bone broth? What's your favorite recipe?
